We spoke to Sharon our Sales Advisor at Bookers Edge to find out what makes Hay-on-Wye such a great place to live, the best places to visit nearby and how she can help you find your ideal new home.
What do you like about working at Bookers Edge?
The bespoke development offers a wide variety of different house types. The homes perfectly compliment the beautiful town of Hay-on-Wye and have been admired by many local residents.
What do you most like about the homes being built?
There is something for all tastes and budgets, and all of the homes are unique, which is something not often found on new build developments.
What’s your favourite home and why?
It’s difficult to have a favourite when they each offer such different qualities, however, if I had to choose I think it would be the Lawrence. I particularly love the spacious kitchen/dining/family area large enough to accommodate any family occasion, and how the bi-folding doors open right up to let the outside in.
Why do you think this is a great place to live?
Hay-on-Wye sits on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park; it has stunning views of the Black Mountains and surrounding countryside. The town centre is both traditional and quirky; a good few hours can be lost exploring and sampling the many shops, cafes and book stores. It is within easy reach of Hereford, Crickhowell, Abergavenny and Monmouth. Hay offers peace, tranquillity, adventure and exceptional countryside.
Best things to do nearby?
Only a short distance away is Crickhowell which was voted ‘best high street of 2019’ and offers a vibrant mix of shops. My favourite is Nicholls for shopping and The Bear pub which is fantastic for either coffee & welsh cakes or a 3-course meal. Nearby is Talgarth which is a delightful town offering traditional crafts and individual shops. If your feeling active go and experience the great outdoors over the Brecon Beacons, there are organised tours which cater to all fitness levels.
Favourite things to do in Hay-on-Wye or the surrounding areas?
The infamous Hay Festival takes place twice a year and is an absolute ‘must’ as is a visit to the ruins of Hay Castle. The town has over 35 book shops, and I love that there is always something to discover in art galleries, craft shops, independent cafes and coffee shops. I would recommend visiting The Granary for some delicious wholesome food. For the more adventurous there is the Black Mountain Activities Centre offering canoe hire, gorge walking, caving, archery, mountain biking and so much more. Regardless of age, there is something for everyone in Hay.
If someone is interested in purchasing how can you help?
We can discuss the best house for your lifestyle and budget regardless of whether it’s a property to purchase as an investment, second home or main residence. I can also talk you through using schemes such as Help to Buy and Assisted Move. The Show Home is available to view; I have the floor plans for each house type along with all the specifications. You are guaranteed a very warm welcome, and I will always put the kettle on ready!
