Nestled in the picturesque town of Bruton, Somerset, Longcroft at Cubis Bruton offers residents a harmonious blend of contemporary living and community spirit. Jayne and Barry, recently moved-in-residents, share their experiences of settling into this innovative neighbourhood.
Embracing Modern Living
Having relocated from a 1908 Edwardian house in Essex, Jayne and Barry were captivated by the modern design and energy efficiency of their new home and since moving in have favoured the open plan living area, combining kitchen, dining area and living room in one: “It’s so sociable! It worked brilliantly at Christmas when Barry was busy cooking Christmas lunch for us all!” says Jayne.
Barry appreciates the low-maintenance aspect, noting, “What I love the most is not having to do DIY every week and knowing that the house is energy efficient and warm.”
The homes at Longcroft are designed with sustainability in mind, featuring Solar PV panels, triple-glazed windows, and mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems, all contributing to achieving an EPC A Rating.
A Welcoming Community
There is a strong sense of community at Longcroft, Cubis Bruton. Jayne recalls, “After only two days, we were invited to a gathering at a bar in Bruton. Everyone has been so friendly.”
Barry adds, “Living around the green is especially nice as you often bump into people out in the street for a chat.”
The residents have established a supportive network, exemplified by their active WhatsApp group, fostering a close-knit community atmosphere.
Exploring Bruton
Living just a short walk from Bruton’s High Street, Jayne and Barry have immersed themselves in the town’s vibrant offerings.
Barry appreciates the cultural scene: “I love Bruton—great independent shops, fantastic eateries, lovely pub, and an even nicer bar at the Blue Ball.”
Bruton is renowned for its arts and crafts, with venues like Hauser & Wirth Somerset showcasing contemporary works. Although the couple don’t have school-aged children, the development is situated within close proximity of some great schools, both independent and state.
A New Chapter
The move to Cubis Bruton has provided Jayne and Barry with more leisure time and opportunities to pursue their passions. Barry, a photographer and painter, has joined life drawing classes at Hauser & Wirth, and in nearby Frome, and Charlton Musgrove.
The couple who are keen gardeners love the fact they had the ability to design a new manageable garden at home, and to add to their sustainable-lifestyle they have secured an allotment across the road, allowing them to expand their love for growing fresh fruit, veg and cut flowers.
Reflecting on their decision, Jayne shares: “We loved the idea of an ‘A’ efficiency home, with everything new meaning less time on home maintenance and more time for us!”
Their story demonstrates how modern developments like Longcroft at Cubis Bruton can offer a fulfilling lifestyle, blending contemporary design with a strong sense of community in the heart of Somerset.
