International Surfing Day 2019 – Our Top 5 UK Surf Destinations

June 20, 2019

Today marks International Surfing Day 2019, an annual event held in celebration of the sport and the lifestyle. Environmentally focused, the event promotes sustainability and helps raise awareness of some of the urgent threats facing our coasts. Whether you’re a pro surfer or just want to have some fun riding the waves, a large number of competitions are held on this day in destinations renowned for surfing such as Hawaii, California, Bali and Cornwall.

In honour of this day, here are our top 5 UK surfing destinations:

1. Perranporth Beach, Cornwall
Home to our award winning development The Dunes, Perranporth Beach is a well regarded surf beach picking up plenty of swell. The Penhale end is known as having the best waves but due to the vast size of the beach, there are plenty of spots to choose from.

2. Westport Beach, Scotland
Known for its 8-foot waves, Westport Beach in western Scotland is ideal for experienced surfers. The beautiful backdrop of the Machrihanish Dunes Golf Course sits closely behind, presenting an array of both land and sea sport activities.

3. Rest Bay Porthcawl, Wales
Only 20 minutes from Cardiff, Porthcawl is the perfect location for those learning how to surf with regular lessons held on the beach for beginners. Porthcawl is also home to one of our newest beachfront developments, The Links.

4. Croyde Bay, North Devon
Suitable at all stages of the tide, Croyde Bay is a popular surfing destination. Attracting international surfers as well as locals, Croyde Bay offers consistency with beautiful views of the Heritage Coastline of North Devon.

5. Whiterocks Portrush, Northern Ireland
If you’re searching for a surf location with a spectacular view, Whiterocks Portrush is your calling. Situated just outside of Portrush town, this 3 mile beach not only attracts surfers but kayakers, body boarders and horse riders too.
