Walks in Bournemouth and Dorset

November 17, 2017

A fun way to explore the great outdoors in Bournemouth and the wider Dorset area this summer is on foot so why not pack a picnic and enjoy some of the finest scenery in the country near our development at The Chocolate Box in Bournemouth and our apartments coming soon to Poole, Harbour Lofts.

Whether you prefer a gentle stroll with a loved one or something more challenging with a group of friends, here’s our favourite walks in the area:

Bournemouth promenade – 11 miles

Starting at Bournemouth Pier near our development The Chocolate Box follow the wide sandy beach towards the Hengistbury Head nature reserve and sand dunes. Enjoy the spectacular view of Christchurch harbour from the headland and carry on to Steamer Point nature reserve via the cliff top path leading to Highcliffe Castle. Pass hidden beaches and coves and take detours through parklands until you reach Barton-on-Sea.

South Purbeck – 6 miles

Linking with a network of footpaths, the South West Coast Path is a great way to explore the breathtaking coastal landscape. Start at Spyway car park and head towards Dancing Ledge to take in the history of where Purbeck stone was once loaded onto ships. Enjoy stunning sea views, stroll past former quarries and spot wildlife in the expanse of grassland. Stop off for refreshments in quaint tea rooms or local public houses.

Clouds Hill – 6.75 miles

Just a 20-minute drive from our waterfront apartments at Harbour Lofts, start this circular trail at Bovington’s famous tank museum and follow the route along picturesque country lanes and through woodland and heathland, spotting rare birds as you go. This walk has also been named ‘The Lawrence of Arabia walk’ as you will pass one of his homes at Clouds Hill and also his last resting place.

Hod Hill, Stourpaine – 1 mile

If you want an escape from the coast, this walk will enable you to enjoy some of the greatest views over rural Dorset from the hill fort. Situated high above the meander on the River Stour, be prepared for a steep climb to the fort which levels out for you to enjoy beautiful elevated views of the spectacular surrounding countryside.
