Some of the best attractions in Cornwall

November 17, 2017

Cornwall is not all about sea and sand, the county has many other qualities and attributes that make it such a great place to live and visit all year round; from wildlife conservation centres, historic gardens to general amusement parks.

The county has many world-renowned attractions such as the Tate St Ives, Eden Project and St Michaels Mount but it also has some less known gems such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Truro

The county’s one and only city is centred around Truro Cathedral with its impressive gothic towers dominating the skyline. Since the late 18th and early 19th century, Truro has been and continues to be a thriving port with its streets lined with elegant townhouses. In the shadow of the cathedral, you can spend days exploring the warren of streets filled with local independent traders offering everything from surf wear, fashion boutiques, to locally made bread and Cornish cheeses.

Eden Project, St Austell

Open all year round the Eden Project has the world’s largest rainforest in captivity with the giant Biomes home to steamy jungles, waterfalls and a canopy walkway amongst the treetops. There are rock concerts in the summer and ice-skating in winter.

St Michaels Mount, Marazion

This former medieval monastery has been sensitively restored to show life on the mount in the 17th century. The chapel has beautiful stained glass whilst the seaward gardens are a haven on a busy summers day.

Minack Theatre, Porthcurno

Carved into the granite cliffs overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay is The Minack Theatre Cornwall’s world famous open-air theatre. The summer theatre season runs from May to September presenting drama, musicals and opera in the most dramatic of settings.

Newquay Zoo, Newquay

The 13-acre Newquay Zoo site is home to more than 1,000 rare and exciting animals from lions, lemurs and Black wildebeest to exotic tropical birds and reptiles. There is always something happening at the Zoo whether its a new arrival, new exhibit or a fantastic event. Located just over a mile from our apartments at One Lusty Glaze.

Lost Gardens of Heligan, Mevagissey

Set in 200 acres and open all year the Lost Gardens of Heligan is a magical place. Beyond the Himalayan spring garden are the superbly restored Edwardian fruit, flower and vegetable gardens, and further on into the valley, there are shady bowers and pool with beautiful dragon and damselflies. A great place to find some peace and quiet.
