Acorn, a busy and well-established property development company with a varied portfolio of residential and mixed use schemes across London, Bristol, Exeter, Cornwall and South Wales, require a M&E Technical Design Manager to work in its Bristol / London offices. You will report to the Group Projects and Commercial Director, acting as the central point across the entire group for development of project M&E strategies, and thereafter the management of procurement of specialist consultants and advising on procurement route (subcontractors / sub-subcontractors). 

Acorn is usually at the forefront and adoption of green construction and technologies, and this role would heavily involve green technology and construction. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Define and manage M&E strategy and design process via external consultants. 
  • Deliver M&E design aspects of projects and manage design issues. 
  • Monitor development of, and compliance against, the Client M&E brief. 
  • Prepare, or assist with, the M&E Consultant enquiry/RFI/fee documents and thereafter assist in the external design team appointments. 
  • Implement procedures for the flow and quality of design information through to the pre-construction and operational teams. 
  • Review and appraise proposed M&E subcontractors and sub-subcontractors. 
  • Review and coordinate information, assist in issuing information to M&E subcontractors and consultants. 
  • Manage design brief process (RIBA 2-5), support operational teams, and review construction issue drawings, as they relate to M&E. 
  • Manage compliance checks, offer engineering solutions, and advise on cost-effectiveness of alternative construction methods. 
  • Advise on cost-effectiveness of alternative construction methods. 
  • Assist in developing and executing green construction and technologies and develop strategic relationships with specialist suppliers and industry experts. 

 

The desired individual will be suitably qualified preferably Chartered (CIBSE or similar, or working towards) with at least 5 years UK building services consultancy background working at a lead or principal level from a mechanical services background with a good understanding of electrical services, public health and sustainability aspects.
